Meet Mike Sumner
I have practiced law since 1984 in Newnan and Atlanta. My primary focus has been in the areas of estate and business litigation. You may see my entire resumé here.
I became a certified mediator in 2011 while practicing law full time. Initially, I became a mediator so that I could be a better advocate for my clients in their mediation sessions. For several years, I have conducted mediations throughout the South Metro Atlanta area, including Carroll, Coweta, Clayton, Fayette and Troup counties, usually in estate disputes but also in business cases. I am willing to travel farther if necessary. Unlike like most mediators, I still maintain a very active law practice. So, if you want an active litigator to conduct your mediation or arbitration, I am your choice.
Mediation can be a very valuable tool. It allows the parties to a lawsuit to have some “say” about the outcome of their case. The time and legal costs saved by avoiding court are additional factors favoring mediation. If nothing else, mediation gives each party a chance to tell a completely independent legal expert about their case. Typically the more often you tell your story, the better prepared you will be at trial if our mediation proves unsuccessful.
It is likely that your case has been progressing for several months, possibly longer. Mediation will provide us the opportunity to spend a few hours to resolve the conflict. I pledge to you that I will work diligently towards a resolution of your case. Please go to my calendar to see if I am available to assist you.
